James Gin is James May’s gin, not just some generic liquid that he’s slapped his name on for marketing purposes. It's really his. After finishing The Grand Tour and buying his local pub, he dreamt up the flavours and worked with master distiller Hugh Anderson to create them.
Like the rest of us, he’s bored to death of reading about ‘botanical narratives’, ‘journeys in gin’, ‘crafting with passion’ and all the other marketing guff that craft gin brands seem determined to foist upon us. Sales suggest that many people feel similarly.
The range now includes Asian Parsnip, London Drizzle and California Dreamgin’. All of those are 40% ABV and there’s a Navy Strength version of Asian Parsnip at 57% ABV. They’ve all won multiple awards because they taste really good and James has even been recognised as a ‘Gin Ambassador’ although no-one knows what that means.
Not a reference to privet or box but instead to a strategy which involves placing bets on different outcomes to secure a guaranteed profit regardless of the result. Like buying a Ferrari and a Fiat Panda, possibly. Our gin has proved particularly popular with Californians so we invented one in their honour. Distilled with mushroom, oregano and patchouli: the botanical signature of the American hippie movement that originated there. A gin for people who find most gins too square, man. 40% ABV
Perfect for trying out my gin or for when you don’t like someone quite enough to buy them a proper bottle. Includes a 50ml bottle of each of our 40% ABV gins, ideal for under the table concealment during PowerPoint presentations from Steve in marketing or pre-Christmas parties with those odd people down the road. The James Gin Mini Gift Set includes: 50ml Asian Parsnip 50ml American Mustard 50ml London Drizzle
Gin is traditionally called London Dry - but I live there and usually it isn’t. So I wanted to make a gin that would invoke that unique petrichor smell that comes from light rain hitting the pavement on a warm day. I’ve never met anybody who doesn’t like that smell. 40% ABV
American Mustard distils the very essence of the United States - hot-dog mustard and dill pickles - to create something really spectacular - a savoury gin that is both light and warming with a slight sensation of fire on the tongue. It’s the perfect accompaniment to every traditional American fast food recipe, but we don't recommend using it as a garnish. That would be absurd. 40% ABV
An American customer said that if we made a Navy Strength version of Asian Parsnip, ‘the world of gin would never be the same’. So, obviously we did and he was right. 57%
I had an idea for a gin that is very British, using parsnip - which reminds me of dampness - combined with the spicy sparkle of the Asian spices found in Indian food. So we created the unimaginatively named Asian Parsnip - celebrating both the homely character of that most English of root vegetables and the warming stimulus of spices from the Indian subcontinent. 40% ABV
